Vehicle registration
For clarification about registration and its costs, we advise you to contact the customer care office of the Ministero dei Trasporti (Department of Transport) to the following address: www.infrastrutturetrasporti.it . You can also telephone the customer care office in La Spezia at the following number: 0187 506569. Once you obtain the registration in Italy, with the documents issued by the Motorizzazione (Ministero dei Trasporti), you have to go to this provincial office (or another) of the P R A (Vehicle Public Register) to produce the request for a first registration of the vehicle (both new and old one). You have to give the office:
property document (selling act or request)
photocopy of the foreign registration document or conformity certificate
photocopy of the Italian registration document (carta di circolazione)
The selling act should be given in a contract form, undersigned by sellers and buyer. The signature of this act has to be authenticated by the notary; it is advisable to do it by the Consulate as it’s considered Italian territory. The selling act can be replaced by a self declalation (done as well in the shape of a private act with authenticated signature of the notary) in case that the ragistration request of the second-hand vehicle is done by the person who was the owner of it abroad, and it results from the English circulation document.
The costs for the registration in the P R A are as follows:
euro 27,00 (ACI dues)
euro 29,24 (stamp duty)
In La Spezia the IPT (imposta provinciale di trascrizione) tax which varies according to the type of vehicle and fiscal features (the IPT for vehicles up to 53 kilowatt is of euro 196,00, while over 53 kilowatt the IPT raises in price for each kilowatt) .
We remain at your disposal for any further explanations you might need.
